Thick-billed murres (Brunich's guillemots)

(Uria lomvia, Family Alcidae)

Kin clusters, parentage, morphology, and population genetics -
within colony studes of an arctic seabird

Like other alcids such as razorbills, dovekies, and murrelets, murres are remarkable seabirds that have can dive to great depths to fish, can fly over a hundred kilometres in a single feeding trip, and have conquered polar waters. Found exclusively in the Northern Hemisphere, alcids are the ecological equivalent of penguins (Family Spheniscidae, unrelated) from Southern Hemisphere waters.
